Southern Exposure Seed ExchangeSESE
SESE Internship and WWOOF Program
Southern Exposure Seed Exchange is proud to offer WWOOF internships in 2006. Here on our 72-acre rural Virginia farm, interns can learn the art of seed saving with our diverse staff. Interns will also have the opportunity to see and taste for themselves exactly why we specialize in heirloom plants. Here at Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, we cherish the energy that new people can bring to our business.

Interns will be asked to work 40 hours each week, of which they may be asked to spend as many as 30 hours in the gardens. Also interns will be asked to cook for and clean our house once a week for a few hours. Interns may be asked to do as many as 6 hours of office work primarily packing seeds. More office work may be available for those who are so inclined.

All the workers at Southern Exposure Seed Exchange live together on our farm. We are a very close group with active social lives in the local community. Interns would be welcome into our circle of friends including local musicians, Twin Oaks Farm, The Virginia Association for Biological farming, and the Little Flower Catholic Worker Farm.

See first hand our rotational chicken grazing, help us preserve enough food to last the winter, join us in our variety taste tests, and learn about gardening and seed saving. After hoeing in the of Texas Gourdseed Corn, you may wish to build a bentwood trellis or double dig a new bed rich with compost. Help us explore and develop new products to offer to our wonderful customers. We have an extensive library of books, catalogs, and magazines you can read. Sip tea in the herb garden. Visit other organic local farms and see how they operate. Attend bimonthly Virginia Association for Biological Farming meetings with us. Take a walk through our woods down to the South Anna River and find a grove of wild pawpaws. Enjoy the harvests from our orchards and gardens. We also sponsor monthly potluck barbeques for our local friends. If you like, you can help us prepare monthly meals for our homeless brethren to send to the Freedom House in Richmond.
