| LEEKS (Allium ampeloprasum) Leeks are biennial members of the onion family that are grown for their delicate onion flavor in soups and salads. CULTURAL NOTES: Culture of leeks is similar to that of onions. (See cultural notes for onions.) Sow seed indoors in flats 10 to 12 weeks before setting out transplants 6" apart in rows 18" apart. Leeks require loose, fertile soil kept well watered through the growing season. The stalks can be blanched by hilling up the soil around the stalks. PACKET: 3 g (about 1100 seeds) sows 25'. |
