80 days. [Florida family heirloom since about 1910. Seed originally from a family friend of SESE grower Walt Childs. Introduced in 1999 by SESE.] More tender than 'Green Glaze', this is an excellent collard. An unusual feature of this variety is that in about half the plants, the green leaves become variegated when the plants begin to flower. The plants then turn green again as the seeds mature. The variegated plants grow more slowly once the variegation appears. In southern states where the winter temperatures remain above 20oF, plants may live five years or more and develop stems 3 in. in diameter. Pkt. (1 g)
