(green > orange) [Pre-1900 family heirloom from the Doe Hill area in Highland county, VA ] It produces 4 to 6- lobed bright orange, flat shaped bells, 2-1/4" high and 1" wide. The 24" plants are high yielding, are widely adapted and disease resistant. The flavor is sweet with a fruity, multidimensional quality. A nice salad pepper for adding color, zip and extra vitamin C to early summer salads. Pkt. It's astonishing how much these plants yield. In our 2003 garden, we had 25 plants of this variety and we were getting at least seven gallons of fully ripe delicious peppers every week from early July until frost! Furthermore, right before our early frost (October 1st) we harvested 30 gallons of peppers that held their quality well into November! And we didn't even get the plants in the ground early. When they come on, they come on heavy. Despite their small size, they are quick to pick and deseed. To deseed, just cut the top off a quarter inch from the shoulders, pop out the seeds with your finger, and chop. You can even quickly cut the shoulder off of the core to make full use of the delicious pepper. -Cricket Rakita
