[Introduced in 1989 by the Oregon and Washington A.E.S.] 'Summertime' was developed for high temperature growing conditions, especially in the Northwest and other areas where lettuce is grown during the summer. Heads are compact, low-growing, averaging 6" wide by 5" deep, weighing approximately 1-1/4 lbs. when trimmed. Grows to a good size before bolting. Leaves have distinctive swirled, fringed leaves ("flame-leaf") appearance. Responds best to loose well-watered fertile soil. Pkt.
