As new seed crops come in, we'll be returning currently sold out varieties to the webstore. New and returning varieties for the 2012 season will be available online as soon as the catalog goes out in early December.
Onions, Garlic & Rare Woodland Medicinals: Last days to plant!
Fall is shipping season for garlic, perennial onions, and ginseng and goldenseal. There's still time to plant, so take a look at our remaining selection before we're wiped out. All fall items come with a detailed planting guide.
Egyptian Walking Onions (now available in both 1 oz. starter package and 3 oz. bulk size)
NEW - Silverwhite, S&H, Blossom, Persian Star, and Elephant Garlic.
Garlics previously only available in sampler packages: Lorz Italian, California Early, Killarney Red, Polish White, Duganski, and French Red Softneck
Shallots - French Red and Grey Griselle
Ginseng and Goldenseal should both be planted in late fall. Grow these rare woodland medicinals to help preserve them for the future. We offer both seed and roots for Ginseng. Goldenseal is sold as rhizomes (underground stems which are planted like roots).
Virginia Heritage Seed Sampler Supports Fresh Food and Local Farmers

Southern Exposure is proud to sponsor Piedmont Environmental Council’s "Buy Fresh, Buy Local" campaign. We're continuing to support PEC by donating 30% of the purchase price of the Virginia Heritage Seed Sampler, a specially priced collection of 12 varieties rich in flavor and history, all associated with Virginia and the Appalachians. A fantastic foundation for building next year's garden - for beginner and more experienced gardeners alike - this heritage collection makes a wonderful gift for the budding gardener in your life.
Festival Report
Save the date for next year's Heritage Harvest Festival at Monticello - Friday & Saturday, September 15-16th, 2012. This year's event was a great success, drawing over 4,400 friends from near and far to celebrate local food, sustainable growing, and heirloom plants. Seeds were swapped, local food was savored, and fresh information made its way through new networks of friends and neighbors.
In addition to our own Heritage Harvest Festival at Monticello, we attended the National Heirloom Festival and both amazing Mother Earth News Fairs. We still have more to go. Please stop by our booth and say hello at one of these great conferences. We’d love to meet you!
