(Linum grandiflorum) [Introduced to the U.S. from N. Africa and S. Europe and naturalized in many areas by 1900.] Mounds of brilliant velvety-red blossoms May through September. Grow in clumps in borders or beds, and in mixed plantings such as cottage gardens. A good addition to wildflower or meadow gardens. Can be fall-sown in mild areas, or spring everywhere else. Growing instructions: Annual. Germination: 65-70°F, light required, 20-25 days. Full sun. Direct sow or transplant. Sow seed ¼ in. deep, thinning to 6-9 in. apart. Ht. 24 in.
